The University of Missouri Trulaske School of Business will be offering a unique opportunity to study abroad in the Jersey Shore next summer, the school announced Friday.
“We really want to give students the chance to broaden their horizons and experience different cultures,” said Ryan Neal, a spokesperson for the program. “The chance to visit a totally foreign country and immerse oneself in its culture is a tremendous opportunity.”
Students who are selected for the program will take a 3-hour, 8-week course at the end of the spring semester to prepare them for their experience abroad. Professor Alan Williams will instruct the class.
“We’ll touch on various aspects of Shore society, aspects that will decrease the learning curve of acclimating to this society,” Williams explained. “For instance, no one should dive into steroid cycles without extensive background knowledge. Needles are no joke.”
In addition, the class will detail the intricacies of artificial tanning, including a section rebuffing the ridiculous myth that it can be harmful. “The kids need to know about the benefits of exposing your skin to UV rays,” Williams said.
The program itself will run for 10 weeks in the summer, with students working an internship at a local merchandise retailer. “The students will gain valuable real world experience working at one of the leading t-shirt shops on the boardwalk,” Neal said. “It’s experience like this that’s going to get kids a leg up in today’s job market.”
Upon arrival in the Shore, the students will move into a shore house, hosted by a “family” of self-proclaimed ‘guidos.’ Said Neal, “we chose this full-immersion living environment in order to give the students life experience, in addition to the on-the-job experience they are already getting.”
Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive; the preliminary informational meeting packed the 500-seat Bush Auditorium. Exclaimed Tommy Davis, a junior business student, “Bro, this is a once in a lifetime chance, I can’t wait to get messed up and pound out some girls on the Shore!”
Due to the anticipated popularity of the program, the applicants will be screened and selected based on merit. “We want to make sure each person has the right mentality for this environment,” explained Neal. “Certain levels of overconfidence and insecurity must be present for a student to truly thrive in the Jersey Shore.”
The total cost of the program has yet to be decided, though the price is sure to include your dignity.
